Boat Fishing

A3 offers boat fishing from our own personal power craft on Mae Kuang, Mae Ngat, Kiow Lom, Sirikit, Doi Tao and Bhumipol Reservoirs. Trips are available for both single day and multi-day overnight trips. Using Chiang Mai as our operations centre, the boats are towed to each reservoir along scenic Thai highways. Depending on the distance from Chiang Mai, the highway trips vary from one to four hours in time.

Our boats range from a 17 foot centre-console Boston Whaler type to a 12 foot skiff. Each boat has been purposely designed for fishing and is very stable. All crat are fitted with all necessary safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, radios, life jackets, GPS and first aid kits. The boats are fitted with 25hp to 55hp Yamaha and Suzuki engines. The outboard engines are only used to get to and from the fishing grounds. While fishing, the boats are operated using a reliable Minn-Kota electric motor. The electric motor provides a quiet, stealthy approach to the lair of the exotic, wary Thai species; the Giant Snakehead and Jungle Perch.

Our boats range from 17 foot centre-console Boston Whaler type to a 12 foot skiff.

Our boats are without doubt the best craft any outfitter has available in Thailand, and they are owned, maintained and serviced by A3. The boat’s construction gives anglers the perfect platform to fish comfortably all day long. On board is a cooler full of cold refreshments, lunches and snacks.

Our boats include a 17 foot centre-console Boston Whaler...

Both anglers have perfect platforms to fish comfortably... all day long!

The boats are operated by experienced Thai guides. The 15′ and 17′ Boston Whaler-type craft usually have two clients plus the guide in the boat. Each angler takes turn fishing from the prime location on the raised front deck. The angler seated in the centre times his cast to cover the water the angler in the bow doesn’t cover.Using the smaller 12 foot skiff, the Thai guide fishes with only one client at a time.

Our normal fishing day last 8 hours. But if the bite is good we will, if requested, stay longer – although staying within the measures of safety limits, without additional cost.

Becasue the best fishing time is during low light periods, it is nornmal to pick up the client before dawn, or in the late afternoon to be on th water when the Snakeheads and Jungle Perch are feeding.

Questions & Answers:

Q:1) Will I get sea sick?

A: North Thailand is one of the calmest spots on the earth for winds, and we very rarely have large waves on the reservoirs. 99% of the time the ride is very smooth. We never stretch our or our guest’s limit and we serve a safe and pleasurable holiday – not action or thrill-seeking tours.

Q:2) How fast do the boats go?

A: Our boats reach a maximum speed of 55 km per hour, which is a comfortable and safe speed.
